The Royal Scotsman, A Belmond Train

It’s an absolute joy to finally be able to share this very special project. Last year I was contacted by Belmond, the luxury travel brand owned by LVMH and of Orient Express fame. Belmond were working on a newly designed carriage on the Royal Scotsman train. They commissioned me to design the details for their Grand Suite sofa.

Aside from being a dream project to work on, it felt particularly close to my heart. The house I was born and grew up in is on the Kyle of Lochalsh railway line. When I was wee I would wave at the passengers who stood on the balcony of The Royal Scotsman trains and imagine what it was like inside. A magical, unknown life whizzing by.

I worked alongside @aramintacampbell whose textiles cover the sofa, to ensure our designs and colour choices were truly harmonious. Our shared vision with Belmond was to go beyond the expected tweed and tartan and to create a space that celebrates Scottish craftsmanship today.

My work is but a small detail, but that’s where the magic starts.

Thank you Belmond for showcasing local craftsmanship and luxury on the Royal Scotsman so thoughtfully.
